INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Public Schools students are celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.
The school district held its annual tribute to King Friday morning at Crispus Attucks High School.
Students and members of the community watched special performances from IPS students across the district. The keynote speaker was State Rep. Cherrish Pryor, D-Indianapolis. She touched on the theme of this year's program, "Courageous Conversations Required."
"Dr. King's words were marked by his commitment to nonviolence, justice and equalities," said Pryor. "His words continue to inspire and resonate today, serving as a foundation for ongoing discussions in social justice and civil rights. So students, don't be afraid to have those courageous conversations with others, particularly your friends, who you may see making a bad decision."
Pryor went on to encourage students to have those conversations with trusted adults when they don't know what to do.
This was the 43rd year IPS held this tribute.
