GREENFIELD, Ind. — An inmate at the Hancock County Jail died early Thursday morning after being found unresponsive in his cell.

According to a press release from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, around 6:47 a.m. on Oct. 10, Hancock County Jail officers were serving a breakfast tray to 52-year-old Joe Willie Davis of Indianapolis when the officers found Davis unresponsive in his cell.

Jail officers immediately called for medical personnel and began to attempt to render Davis aid. However, when medics arrived, they were unable to revive Davis. He was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m.

Investigators say they do not suspect foul play. An autopsy will determine Davis' cause of death.
