IndyHumane helping Winchester shelter with supplies, lost pets

IndyHumane loaded up pet food and essential supplies that the Winchester Animal Shelter has run out of.

WINCHESTER, Ind. — As hundreds of volunteers in Randolph County continue to help clean up tornado damage, one local animal shelter now has relief.

IndyHumane loaded up pet food and essential supplies that the Winchester/Randolph County Animal Shelter has run out of.

"Over the last several days, we've gave out over 100 bags of food for people who need it, 53 crates, maybe more," shelter director Aaron Orr said.

But it wasn't just supplies they offered, a handful of dogs were taken back to Indianapolis who have been stuck in the shelter for a while.

"When they had a full shelter and this disaster hit for this community, they've got people waiting for their animals to stay, so we figured the best thing to do is take the ones who have been here for a while and bring them to our community," IndyHumane CEO Donna Casamento said.

While Orr has been out everyday looking for lost pets, this donation pushes him to keep the search going.

"We are going to do our best to make sure they are all reunited with our owners. I'm not going to stop until I can make that happen," he said. "I've made a post that says the phone will ring 24/7. I don't care if it's 3 a.m., I will go out and make sure I can find that pet."

If you want to help out the shelter, you can call them at 765-305-1500.
