Purple Line information shared at meeting hosted by IndyGo

The rapid transit line extends more than 15 miles between Lawrence and Indianapolis.

LAWRENCE, Indiana — Residents got the chance to ask questions about IndyGo's new Purple Line Monday.

The rapid transit line extends more than 15 miles between Indianapolis and Lawrence.

The route runs up Capitol Avenue, over to Meridian Street and up to 38th Street before heading up Post Road to Fort Ben and Ivy Tech.

IndyGo hosted an event Monday at the Fort Ben library branch so people could get answers before all that happens.

IndyGo leaders say the Purple Line is about more than travel.

"The Purple Line replaces, like what I said, one of our most-ridden routes, Route 39, but it goes through an area that has been overlooked for a really, really long time, and so not only is it better transit, but it's infrastructure improvements, it's economic development, it is all the things that come with bus rapid transit," said IndyGo's Jordan Patterson.

Purple Line operations start Sunday, Oct. 11.

IndyGo previously made the announcement as "one of its most significant sets of service changes to date."

In addition to the Purple Line, the changes include minor route adjustments on the south side of Marion County and significant changes to the north.

"These changes are another major step toward implementing IndyGo’s 2027 Transit Network, which was designed through public feedback, to increase the quality and frequency of bus service," the agency said in a statement.

The following routes will be impacted: 4, 10, 18, 19, 28, 29 (formerly 902), 30, 31, 39, 82, 86 and 92 (Purple Line).

A detailed list of the impacts on each route, as well as maps, can be found at this link on IndyGo's website.
