IndyGo board names new president, CEO

Jennifer Pyrz has been interim CEO for about six months.

INDIANAPOLIS — The new head of IndyGo says public transit service across Indianapolis is improving, but they've still got work to do.

Interim president and CEO Jennifer Pyrz got the job permanently during Thursday's board meeting. She joined IndyGo four years ago and has been serving in the interim role for the last six months.

Pyrz said as they look to the future, IndyGo has to adapt to changing travel patterns and focus on attracting and keeping drivers. They haven't had enough bus drivers for several years now.

But overall, Pyrz said, IndyGo is heading in the right direction.

"Ridership is increasing. We had over a million rides on the Red Line last year. We see very positive trends on all of our routes, so I think we've got a really bright future ahead of us," Pyrz said.

Construction on IndyGo's Purple Line is expected to wrap up by fall. It will provide rapid transit from Lawrence to downtown Indianapolis.
