Indy Pride hosts 'Hoosier 250' tricycle race

Teams of two raced around a track on Mass Ave hoping to get the fastest time.

INDIANAPOLIS — Pride Month is still a couple weeks away, but Indy Pride is gearing up early with an Indy 500-themed event.

Sunday was the 2024 Hoosier 250 tricycle race. Teams of two raced around a track on Mass Ave hoping to get the fastest time.

The event is one of the oldest held by Indy Pride, dating back over 30 years ago. Indy Pride says the event continues to grow each year.

"It started small in a parking lot, and it's just shaped and shifted and evolved as we've grown as people have been excited about this event," Indy Pride board president Jenny Boyts said. "Always felt at home on Mass Ave, so we've gone from taking the length of Mass Ave or some blocks there to finding some side city streets and being able to fill it with just joy and excitement in bringing all kind of queer folks, allies of all ages out on a Sunday to kick us off for the month of June."

Indy's annual Pride Festival is coming up on Sunday, June 8 at Military Park.
