INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Indy Pride is standing in solidarity with protesters in the Black Lives Matter movement and making big changes to show it.

The organization announced Thursday it would cancel Pride Month events that had gone virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic. The only event the group is still planning to have is the Indy Pride Virtual Festival on June 20.

"We have a responsibility to address systemic inequities as well as listen and support the brown and black community," the organization said in a press release. "The Indy Pride Virtual Festival will uplift black and brown people in our community, spotlight their stories, and showcase their contributions to our community."

In addition to the change in this month's events, Indy Pride said it will no longer contract with police departments for security purposes for its future events. Instead, the organization will work with private security firms.

Police departments will only be used to assist in blocking traffic, which is mandated by the city.
