Indianapolis - Eyewitness News has learned that the director of Indy Parks and Recreation has resigned.

Joseph Wynns' resignation will take effect September 12th. The reason for his resignation is not known at this time. However, it comes after Mayor Greg Ballard announced $3 million in cuts to Indy Parks' budget for 2009.

"Joe Wynns has served the citizens of Indianapolis for over 28 years and that kind of service deserves our thanks and our admiration. I thank Joe for his dedicated service and wish him luck in his future endeavors," Ballard said in a statement.

Wynns has worked under several administrations and, according to his biography, he has spent 36 years working as public servant for the city.
