INDOT plans closures of I-465 for south side construction

A large portion of Interstate 465 will close on the south side of Indianapolis later this year.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A large portion of Interstate 465 will close on the south side of Indianapolis later this year.

Crews will close the eastbound lanes of I-465 between I-70 and I-65 from September 14 through about September 24. The westbound lanes will then close from September 28 and reopen on or before October 8. Only one direction of the interstate will be closed at a time.

INDOT says the repair project will remove and replace concrete bridge approaches over Kentucky Avenue (SR 67), State Ditch, White River and Harding Street (SR 37). Bridge joints will also be replaced and asphalt and concrete will be patched during the closures.

Detour information

Traffic data supplied by INRIX

Drivers affected by the closures will be directed to I-65 and I-70 for detours around the construction. This detour will add approximately three-to-four minutes to the normal trip time between the I-465 interchanges at I-70 on the west side and I-65 on the south side.

Those who would normally take I-465 to get to SR 37 or SR 67 will need to take I-70 to Harding Street (Exit 78). Southbound Harding Street will take drivers to SR 37 or SR 67 via Kentucky Avenue.

If you normally use US 31, INDOT recommends considering I-65 as an alternate route.
