DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. — An Indianapolis man was killed in a crash in southeast Indiana Wednesday morning.
Indiana State Police investigators believe 47-year-old Joseph Arthur was driving south on U.S. 421 near the Decatur-Ripley county line around 7 a.m. Wednesday when he lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason. Arthur's vehicle crossed the center line, into the path of a northbound semi tractor-trailer.
The vehicles collided head-on, causing the semi to catch fire.
Arthur was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, 55-year-old Michael Olsen of Charlotte, Michigan, sustained minor injuries.
While the crash remains under investigation, troopers believe speed played a factor in the collision. The highway was closed for about five hours while crews investigated and cleaned up the scene.
