Colts players surprise Indy schoolchildren with new clothes, books

Quarterback Anthony Richardson his teammates surprised students at Eastbrook Elementary School on Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS — As kids walked into the Eastbrook Elementary School gym Tuesday, they were greeted by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.

He wasn't there to teach them about football, but give them a new school uniform.

"They have this big bag and they are just packing and filling it up with stuff and having a good time," safety Trevor Denbow said.

Several tables full of shirts, pants, hygiene needs and even Colts swag, all free for over 580 students. It's part of the team's uniform blitz.

The team says without this event, some of these kids may not be able to buy any basic necessities.

"Maybe clothing isn't available and now it is," Denbow said. "Now 500 kids, 500 lives being touched today was awesome."

Members of the Indianapolis Colts help students at Eastbrook Elementary School pick out clothes and books on Sept. 10, 2024.

The players told 13News this event was not just about getting out into the community, but helping the kids that look up to them to make sure they have a good school year.

For kids like Brees Smith, he was excited to see his favorite team at school, but is thankful the players wanted to help him and his classmates.

"I've never had the opportunity to hang out with people like them," he said. "I feel really appreciative and feel like they care for us."

Along with the new clothes and products, the students also received two free books.
