INDIANAPOLIS — Families who have been impacted by tragedy had a day to smile Thursday.
The Indiana Black Firefighters Association hosted its annual "Christmas at the Firehouse" event, distributing food, books, toys and even bicycles to families in need.
Trasey Graham, who has been a firefighter for more than two decades and has run the holiday program for 18 years, said some of the families lost everything in fires.
"It is amazing, for the simple fact that I seen them when they were devastated and crying and then I get the names and I get to see them with smiles and high-fiving Santa Claus that's in the front room and Mrs. Claus and just saying, 'Thank you. Thank you.' Because they weren't forgotten, they weren't overlooked," Graham said.
This year, "Christmas at the Firehouse" helped more than 50 families.
