INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's first Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will be open in time for the holiday movie season.
The 13-screen cinema, which features a menu of scratch-made food, craft cocktails and local beers, will open Monday, Nov. 18, it was announced Tuesday.
The new cinema is located at 3898 Lafayette Road, on the site of the former Georgetown Cinema, across from Lafayette Square on the west side of Indianapolis. It will feature racing-themed murals, a high-speed racing simulator and Mario Kart consoles in the arcade.
"I've seen firsthand how much this city has to offer, and we're looking forward to becoming part of the community, sharing our passion for film and helping make this area a destination for great movies and amazing experiences," said Michael Kustermann, CEO of Alamo Drafthouse.
Inside the theater, guess will find heated seats, immersive Dolby sound and VIP seating with "butt kickers" to add to the viewing experience. Food and drink is delivered right to the guest's seat. Alamo Drafthouse also has a strict "no talking/no texting" policy to provide visitors with a distraction-free viewing experience.
Seating at the theater is assigned and can be reserved in person, online or by purchasing on the mobile app. In addition to first-run releases, Alamo Drafthouse also shows independent and arthouse films.
The facility also includes private karaoke rooms, interactive movie parties and signature events, including advanced screenings of new movies.
In September, the company held job interviews to fill about 100 positions at the new cinema, including bartenders, servers and projection operators.
Alamo Drafthouse was founded in 1997 as a single-screen repertory theater in Austin, Texas, and has grown to 39 locations across the country.
