MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WTHR) — A woman in Pennsylvania is hoping to recover a painting of her mother that was lost in Indiana 20 years ago.
What happened to it is a mystery, but one she's hoping to solve.
Korea 1969 or 1970
It was 50 years ago and Tina Locondro's father, Glenn, was stationed in Korea. He was serving his country and missing Tina's mother, Betty, badly.
So, he took a photograph he had of Betty to an artist to have him do a painting of her.
When he returned to the states, he brought the painting back with him.
In the 1980s they divorced, and Betty kept the painting.
Pennsylvania
In the mid '80s, Betty began dating a man named Clarence. He was employed at the Bethlehem Mines in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania.
He ended up getting laid off and was offered a job in Indiana.
Betty didn't want to leave her three children and grandchild in Pennsylvania, so she and Clarence tried to make their relationship work long distance. Eventually, the relationship ended.
Clarence passed away January 17, 1999 in Michigan City, Indiana. His family is not sure what happened to his personal belongings, including the painting of Betty.
The search
Betty passed away in 2010. Her daughter Tina has missed her every day since and that painting of her mother has often times filled her thoughts. She didn't know where to start though.
Then, during a recent move, she discovered a picture of the painting in a box of photos.
She sent the image out to news organizations across Indiana, hoping if the photo got out, someone might recognize the painting and return it to her.
If you know where the painting is or what happened to it, Tina can be contacted at tina.locondro@facebook.com.
