LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A train derailment blocked traffic for several hours and spilled corn onto roadways near West Lafayette on Friday afternoon.
The incident happened in Tippecanoe County, between Klondike Road and Newman Road, a little before 1 p.m. this afternoon.
There are no injuries or chemicals spilled onto roadways, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office. However, many pounds of corn spilled out of the train cars following the derailment.
The cars belonged to the Kankakee, Beaverville, and Southern Railroad Company, also known as KBSR, according to INDOT.
TCSO does not currently have any information on a possible cause of the derailment.
Tippecanoe Emergency Management and West Lafayette Fire Department assisted at the scene.
INDOT also assisted with traffic control on Indiana State Road 26 until early Friday afternoon.
