TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The Terre Haute Casino Resort is open for business.
Cars began lining up as early as 4:30 a.m. Friday to get into the casino. It features 1,000 slot machines and 36 game tables to go with five restaurants and six bars.
City leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for the $290 million facility. More than 2,100 people visited the casino in just the first hour it was open.
Our partners at the Tribune-Star spoke with guests who visited from across Indiana to check it out.
“It’s very beautiful here,” said Carla Wallace of Clinton, Indiana. “It’s just overwhelming on the first day because there are too many people and you can’t get on the machines you want to be on.”
One couple reportedly visited from Texas to check out the grand opening.
There's still work to be done, however. A luxury hotel that is part of the complex opens next month.
