NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — More fallout Wednesday for Fair Oaks Farms in Indiana.
At least one grocery chain that has stores in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa is pulling "fairlife" milk from its shelves.
According to WMAQ in Chicago, Jewel-Osco released a statement that the move was because it tries to maintain high animal welfare standards across all areas of its business.
Chicago-based "fairlife" was founded by the same man who founded Fair Oaks Farms, Mike McCloskey, and lists Fair Oaks Farms as its flagship.
"fairlife" itself released a statement though saying only 5 percent of its dairy came from Fair Oaks Farms.
It outlined a series of changes including immediately suspending dairy from Fair Oaks Farms.
"fairlife" went on to say that it will be visiting all of its 30 supplying dairies "in person and conducting independent 3rd party audits within the next 30 days to verify all animal husbandry practices at the farms, including all training, management and auditing practices."
