Southern Indiana sheriff donates campaign money he received from Jamey Noel

"They deserve it, he does not, and I do not want it," Clark County Sheriff Scottie Maples wrote.

CLARK COUNTY, Indiana — A southern Indiana sheriff is donating campaign money he received from Jamey Noel.

Current Clark County Sheriff Scottie Maples posted on social media that Noel had donated to his campaign for sheriff.

Noel is spending years in prison after pleading guilty to felony charges of fraud and theft.

Maples said he accepted the $5,000 donation not knowing he would help uncover the corruption and criminal ats Noel had committed while serving as sheriff.

Instead, the sheriff said he would donate that money to the Clark County Youth Shelter.

"They deserve it, he does not, and I do not want it," Maples wrote. "I truly believe that if my team and I hadn't done the right thing and reported Jamey Noel to the Indiana State Police about ghost employment at the [Clark County Sheriff's Office], it would have never led to the investigation regarding New Chapel, and Noel would still be out in the community stealing tax dollars today."
