An Exxon Mobil outage in Joliet, Illinois is expected to cause gas prices to rise in Illinois, Indiana and other states.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says gas prices in the Midwest are going to go up ... a lot.

GasBuddy is an app where users can see what gas prices are at all nearby gas stations.

Patrick DeHaan tweeted Wednesday morning that an outage at ExxonMobil's refinery near Joliet, Illinois, will cause reduced production rates overall. That outage isn't expected to be repaired until the first quarter of next year, which means prices may be on the higher side until then.

In a second tweet, he warned consumers that prices specifically in and around Chicago have increased more than 30 cents higher than last week's prices.

When asked if that would affect Indiana prices as well, DeHaan replied, "Yes. Wholesale #gasprices up sharply again today."

There's no telling how high prices in Indiana will rise, but if you're vehicle is low on gas, it wouldn't be a bad idea to fill up soon.
