FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WTHR) - A northeast Indiana man has a monster fish story to tell after pulling a massive catfish out of the Maumee River in Fort Wayne.

Adam Madison was fishing off a bridge when he snagged a 40-pound flathead catfish. He said patience was the key to the big catch.

“It can take 15 minutes, it can take an hour, it can take two hours. With the one that I caught, I think my reel was out for two hours, almost three hours when he hit that bait,” Madison told WPTA-TV.

While pulling in a 40-pounder may be a dream for many fishermen, Madison said it isn't even his first. He caught another 40-pounder years ago in Fort Wayne and reeled in several sharks in Florida.

“I want that bigger one,” Madison said. “I keep trying and trying and I just can’t get that 50 pounder! I’ve got the 40, I’ve got two 40s. I’ve got to break that 50.”

What makes his feat even more impressive, Madison is legally blind due to a rare eye condition. He said he can see "a little bit," he relies on hearing the click of his fishing reels.

"They’ve got a loud clicker, you listen for the loud click and then you grab the pole. But besides that I don’t let my sight stop me from doing anything,” Madison said.
