Volunteers partner to build single mom's west side home

More than 168 people from the Fuller Center for Housing volunteered to build the mother of two a new home.

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman’s dream of home ownership came true Friday thanks to a partnership from local community organizations.

Holly Shultz received the keys to her home.

More than 168 people from the Fuller Center for Housing volunteered to build the home for Stultz, who is a single mom with two sons.

The volunteers dedicated 1,500 hours collectively to the project, according to organizers.

Today a dedication ceremony welcomed the family into their new Marion County home.

Stultz said she is grateful to have a safe, peaceful space for her family.

"It's just overwhelming,” she said. “I'm really happy that they're never going to have to worry about where they're going to lay down or if we're going to get kicked out of the house because this is our house and we are staying.”

Fuller Center for Housing is a nonprofit organization that partnered with Allison Transmission to make this all possible.

The home is in a neighborhood not far from Allison Transmission on the west side.
