IU Indianapolis student-athletes help clean up | Inspiring Indiana

More than 175 student-athletes at IU Indianapolis participated in Friday's event, meant to clean up the area near 10th and Michigan streets.

INDIANAPOLIS — For the second year in a row, students and coaches came together to pick up trash, mulch flower beds and pull weeds to keep the downtown area beautiful.

More than 175 student athletes participated in Friday's event, and they say they don't mind getting their hands a little dirty to help the community.

"It's a great way for student-athletes to give back. We always say we wanna win in three places — the classroom, the community and on the field of play, so this is one of the ways we can help do that," said Luke Bosso, director of athletics for IU Indianapolis.

"We get so busy in our seasons and I think just giving back to our community — they support us the entire time. So giving back is just a good opportunity to have," said Makenna Collins, a senior and women's soccer player for IU Indianapolis.

The group focused on the stretch of the canal from 10th Street to Michigan Street.

"It's a great day, good weather. Doesn't get better than this," said Willliam Thurin, a senior on IU Indy's men's tennis team.
