Inspiring Indiana: Baker for a Day

Caroline has wanted to be a baker for years, and some caring people just made it happen.

INDIANAPOLIS — A southern Indiana nonprofit is helping a little girl inspire a community by giving her a chance to work her dream job for a day.

Eight-year-old Caroline Durcholz has a serious heart condition. She has been admitted to the hospital 18 times and has had multiple surgeries.

Her family says Caroline has wanted to be a baker for years. The team at Riley Hospital for Children nominated her for a wish and Granted, a wish-granting organization, arranged a day to make it happen.

"We baked a big cookie and we baked small cookies and we decorated them," Caroline said.

It was just the first half of Caroline's wish coming true. Her other wish is to meet her favorite Disney princess, Tiana, so Granted is also sending her to Disney World.

"She's been through it all, so she deserves this little baker for the day and anything that comes her way," Caroline's mom, Tracy, told WFIE.
