Athletes with Indiana ties inspiring in Paris

At least nine athletes with ties to Indiana are leaving Paris with a medal.

INDIANAPOLIS — At least nine Olympians with ties to Indiana are leaving Paris with a medal.

Brownsburg's Chloe Dygert won a bronze in the cycling time trials, despite falling during the race.

Notre Dame's Chris Guiliano won a gold medal in the men's 4x100 freestyle relay and a silver in the 4x200 freestyle relay.

Carmel swimmer Drew Kibler was part of the 4x200 freestyle relay team, as well, becoming the first Carmel swimmer to earn a medal with Team USA's second place finish.

He said the support from Indiana makes it all worth it.

"I trained in Carmel all of last year, too, before switching the training a little bit to (Arizona State University), but like yeah, training there was amazing because everybody was extremely excited about it, super supportive and everywhere I went, all the kids of all ages were just like so excited for me, just rooting me on," Kibler said. "Made me kind of feel like that feeling that every talks about if there's something for something bigger than yourself and it can be a little abstract at times, but Carmel made it really in front of me, really in my face and it was really special."

Several other Hoosier Olympians are still striving for medals in the week ahead. Our team in Paris — Anne Marie Tiernon and Samantha Johnson — is covering every step of their journey.
