After 50 years in community, Indy skating rink ramps up for busy season

New ownership took over Skateland in April.

INDIANAPOLIS — Owning a business can be tough, but one Indy hotspot is ramping up for its busy season with fortitude and a positive attitude.

After 50 years in the community, a new season at Skateland is here.

The business, located near 38th Street and Interstate 465 on the city's northwest side, has new ownership that took over in April. They've been working on upgrades, including new carpet, new games and a fresh coat of paint on walls and floors.

After all of that work, they're ready for you to come back in and play.

"Roller skating has grown so much over the past few years and it continues to grow," said general manager James Wilson, who is also an operating partner. "When they come into this facility, they're coming in here for the love of roller skating, they're coming in here for the love of the attraction of this place. They're coming in here to celebrate very special events, their birthdays, all those special places in their life. And as they grow through here, that's what I want this place to be."

The business says there are more improvements on the way and they're ready to welcome back kids and adult nights for the fall season, which have been surprisingly popular.
