INDIANAPOLIS - Motorists traveling to and through Indianapolis this weekend might encounter delays due to weekend road projects planned by INDOT contractors.
Starting Friday night, crews plan to close all but one lane of eastbound I-465 on the south side of Indianapolis between the State Road 37/Harding interchange and US 31/East Street. Crews will be patching concrete on the two right lanes of I-465 on that stretch of highway.
Travelers through Indianapolis on I-65 or I-70 may encounter delays downtown between the North and South Splits, due to concrete replacement. The Calvary Street entrance to northbound I-65 will also be closed this weekend.
Travelers approaching Indianapolis from the west may consider using I-465 around the north side to avoid delays through downtown or on the south side. Travelers through Johnson County will likely encounter delays on northbound I-65 between Whiteland Road and the Main Street Exit in Greenwood while crews pave and stripe the left two lanes. All exits will remain open along northbound I-65. The paving is scheduled to be complete by Sunday afternoon, weather permitting.
If you are coming to Indianapolis from the east through Hancock County, be ready for one lane traffic westbound for a three mile stretch near Mt. Comfort Road beginning Friday night through Monday morning. Use US 40 from Greenfield to avoid any potential backups.
In Carmel, paving work will close three ramps along US 31. Northbound Keystone Parkway to US 31 will close Friday night and traffic will be routed off at 146th Street, and back onto US 31 at 151st Street. Southbound traffic from US 31 to Clay Terrace Blvd. will have to exit at 151st St. and follow the access road down to 146th St. and Clay Terrace.
The ramp from southbound US 31 to eastbound I-465 will also close for pavement patching Friday night. Traffic will have to head west from US 31 to Michigan Rd. to turn around and head back east on I-465. All closures involving US 31 in Carmel and Westfield are planned to end by Monday morning.
