INDIANAPOLIS — An Indiana State Police trooper is calling it a career after nearly four decades in law enforcement.
ISP Maj. Nila Miller-Cronk announced her retirement Friday, having served the department for the past 38 years.
The 1977 graduate of Tri Jr. Sr. High School in Straughn, Indiana started her career in law enforcement working as an advisor for the Henry County Sheriff's Department Explorer Scout Troop #433. Miller-Cronk served in that capacity for 15 years starting in 1981.
She was a reserve deputy with the Henry County Sheriff's Department from 1983 through 1986, when she joined state police. She served at the Pendleton and Connersville posts of ISP as she rose through the ranks.
Miller-Cronk was promoted to Major in 2007 and was the highest-ranking female trooper from 2007 until 2021.
Continuing to give back to the youth in her community, Miller-Cronk spent the first 16 years of her state police career as a counselor, then director of the ISP Career Camps, while serving on the Indiana State Police Youth Services Board of Directors.
Miller-Cronk and her late husband, Kim Cronk, have two grown daughters.
