ISP K-9 finds forever home with trooper's family after retirement

Ten-year-old "Chase" has worked with Master Trooper Dave Caswell for the past eight years and will now live with his family in retirement.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — An Indiana State Police K-9 is heading to retirement in a familiar home.

Ten-year-old "Chase" has worked with Master Trooper Dave Caswell for the past eight years.

“I’ve accepted a new position within Indiana State Police, and because of that, I can no longer utilize him as part of my duties,” Caswell told WNDU. “So, because of his age and because of his years of service, the department has allowed me to retire him and keep him at my house.”

Chase's police duties ended earlier this week, and he's now enjoying the comforts of home with Caswell and his family. The trooper, however, said going to work without his partner will be challenging.

“When I put on my shoes, that’s normally his cue that he needs to get ready,” Caswell said. “So, he’s over-pestering me, and you can see him kind of drag his paws now when he goes to the crate instead of going to work with me.”
