INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Hoosiers received more than $60 million in unclaimed property last year, the Attorney General's Office says.
Attorney General Curtis Hill said Indiana's effort to return unclaimed property to its rightful owner sets the state apart from others in the nation.
The Unclaimed Property Division received $126 million in unclaimed property. In total, the office returned $61.01 million to citizens last year.
Hoosiers can use mailings, social media and online searches and ads to find their unclaimed property. Unclaimed property is defined as any financial asset with no activity by its owner for an extended period of time:

- Customer deposits or overpayments
- Certificates of deposit
- Credit balances
- Refunds
- Money orders
- Safe deposit box contents
The property returned to Hoosiers in 2018 was $2.1 million more than in 2017.
