INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Gleaners Food Bank is celebrating a major milestone.
It's distributed over half-a-billion pounds of food and other items to Hoosiers in need.
There was plenty of excitement at Gleaners on Friday as the notable moment was announced.
But the food bank said its work is far from finished.
"Unfortunately, that gets us to almost half the need. We still have a 53 million meal-a-year gap in 21 Indiana counties. I wish that we could've talked about a billion pounds, not half a billion pounds being distributed," President and CEO John Elliott said.
Gleaners hopes to help close the meal gap in Indiana by 2023.
