DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind. — A house explosion shook homes across Dubois County Monday evening.
Police and firefighters from several agencies responded to the explosion Jan. 22 on North Hillham Road, which is about six miles southwest of French Lick.
Officials told WFIE-TV in Evansville the entire home was leveled in the explosion, which was heard as much as 10 miles away. The blast damaged homes a half-mile away, according to the Lost River Township Fire Department.
A crew from WHAS-TV drove through the neighborhood where the explosion happened and saw windows of neighboring homes blown out and glass shattered across the porch.
Firefighters spent three hours extinguishing the fires started by the explosion.
Dubois County Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter told WFIE at least one man was missing following the explosion. The search for the man was called off late Monday and resumed Tuesday, when officials with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security told WFIE a body was found.
WFIE spoke with family members Tuesday, who identified the victim as David Baker, and said he was a father and grandfather.
The Dubois County Sheriff's Office is investigating the explosion, along with the Indiana State Fire Marshal.
