TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Big Coca-Cola bottles will be displayed around a western Indiana city as part of an effort to celebrate the history of the uniquely shaped container.

Our newsgathering partners at the Tribune-Star report the Board of Public Works and Safety on Monday approved a request from the Vigo County Historical Society to place the 6-foot (1.8-meter) fiberglass bottles around Terre Haute starting next year. The bottles will be painted by artists in conjunction with Arts Illiana.

Board President John Stinson calls it a "cool project, something that's long overdue."

A historical marker on the former Root Glass Co. site in Terre Haute commemorates the company's creation of the glass Coke bottle's contour design in 1915.
