PETERSBURG, Ind. — AES Indiana is taking the next step to convert its remaining coal units to natural gas.
The company filed a request with the Indiana Utility and Regulatory Commission for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity. According to AES, the move would save customers $280 million over 20 years by avoiding coal-related costs.
The filing is the next step in AES Indiana's plan "to deliver cleaner, more efficient and cost-effective energy solutions," which will meet future energy needs.
If approved, the project to convert units in Petersburg in Pike County from coal to natural gas is expected to be complete by 2026.
