2 inmates found unresponsive in Tippecanoe County Jail

Two inmates were found dead in their jail cells at the Tippecanoe County Jail Saturday.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) — Two inmates have died in a Lafayette jail.

Isaiah Powe and Bonny Ahlrich both died Saturday in their cells at the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Powe, 42, was found unresponsive in his cell on Saturday morning. Later in the day, 56-year-old Ahlrich died in a holding cell.

Both of them were homeless.

The sheriff says there are no signs of foul play in either death and does not believe the incidents are related.

K-9s were called in and swept the jail for drugs.

Autopsies will happen Monday to find out how they died.
