BRAZIL, Ind. — A Hoosier centenarian celebrated his 100th birthday at his usual Tuesday spot — the bowling alley.

Robert Cheatham of Brazil, Indiana, said it had been more than 40 years since he had bowled when his friend, Gordon Krzyzanowski, brought him out to Brazilian Lanes three years ago.

"We came out here and we tried it and he liked it," Krzyzanowski told WTWO-TV

Cheatham eventually bought his own bowling ball and shoes and hits the lanes each week.

"So, every Tuesday, we come down here and bowl just for exercise," Cheatham said.

When he came in after his 100th birthday, Brazilian Lanes held a celebration in his honor. Cheatham said he's not used to all of the praise he's received.

"Since I have turned 100, I have gotten more recognition than in the 100 years I have lived," Cheatham said.

Krzyzanowski said he's glad he gets to hang out with Cheatham and grow their friendship.

"Not many people get to bowl with a 100-year-old," Krzyzanowski said. "I mean, that is unbelievable."
