RICHMOND, Ind. — An Indiana State Police trooper is recovering after an accident Thursday afternoon on Interstate 70 near Richmond.
According to a release from ISP, around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, Master Trooper Eric Downey was assisting a disabled semi truck by providing emergency lights on the exit ramp to US Highway 27, which is near the 151-mile marker on I-70.
The trooper's car, which was unmarked, was placed on an exit ramp and had its emergency lights activated.
A preliminary investigation showed a 33-year-old Ohio man was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 near the area when the Ford crashed into the rear of Downey's vehicle.
Downey reportedly suffered minor injuries to his head and was taken to Reid Hospital in Richmond, where he was treated and later released. The driver of the Ford F-150 was also taken to Reid Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to ISP, neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as being contributing factors to the crash.
