TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police is investigating after an inmate died at the Tippecanoe County Jail Saturday afternoon.
ISP said a preliminary investigation indicates that around 3 p.m. Sept. 14, an inmate alerted jail staff to a medical emergency in their cell. There, the staff found an unresponsive inmate before calling for help and beginning to provide aid.
The inmate was pronounced dead at the jail by the Tippecanoe County Coroner.
"The preliminary investigation does not indicate any signs of foul play," a state police spokesperson said in a statement.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office requested ISP investigate the incident and the coroner's office has not yet released the inmate's name.
State police said the investigation is ongoing.
