INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Parks is getting a grant to buy special equipment to help make trails more accessible.
The grant is paying for an all-terrain wheelchair that can roll over rocks, twigs or roots on the trails.
Park rangers said they've seen how excited people get when they learn this option is available to them.
"Part of Indiana State Parks' mission is 'helping people create memories naturally,' and this is just an awesome way that we are able to do that," said Carlynn Cornhill, with the Chain O' Lakes State Park.
The all-terrain wheelchair is available at Potato Creek State Park, and can be borrowed from the park's nature center.
There are now trackchairs available at 15 state parks, including Fort Harrison State Park and McCormick's Creek.
They are free to use. All you have to do is contact the park ahead of your visit to reserve a time slot.
