Indiana State Museum, historic sites offer free admission this Saturday

It's part of the sites' celebration of Juneteenth.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Museum is offering free admission this weekend.

It's part of their celebration of Juneteenth. The downtown Indianapolis museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Activities will center around the theme "History, Health and Arts."

Other historic locations around Indiana will also offer free admission on Saturday, including Levi and Catharine Coffin, T.C. Steele and Whitewater Canal state historic sites, which will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. as a way to celebrate the holiday.

Juneteenth, a federally recognized holiday on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States following the Civil War.

Tours at the historic sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The sites encourage advance registration by calling the sites directly.
