BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — It was quiet outside of Memorial Stadium Friday, but in 24 hours, thousands will fill the stands.
"It's insane to be 9-0," Josh Lemon said.
The undefeated Hoosiers hope to turn that 9 into a 10 when they take on the Michigan Wolverines Saturday afternoon.
"We are just rallying around the team and Curt Cignetti, so it is a really cool experience seeing even non-sports people getting into this season and enjoying it," Jada Brooks said.
Throughout the season students say they didn't think the team could stay undefeated or even be ranked eighth in the AP poll. But the Hoosiers proved them wrong, and that's all the students can talk about.
"We were all hesitant about, like, 'Are we actually going to win? Is this going to be a repeat of last season?'" Brooks said. "Everybody now would be like 'Google me,' like quoting Cignetti or doing the IU chant he did."
With this new excitement around the team comes new traditions. Ahead of each home game, around 150 students spend the afternoon placing rally towels on every seat in Memorial Stadium.
"It's been cool getting a bunch of different sporting classes involved in it and talking with other fans about how excited we are for the games," Brooks said.
Even if that means climbing to the highest seats, these students are excited to welcome another sold-out crowd.
"The amount of support the team has will be building the rest of this year into next, and I think it'll be a great experience for the whole team," Lemon said.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
