INDIANAPOLIS — 13News has learned the names of some of the people who will be recognized at the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration.
The Pacers Sports and Entertainment Corporate Luncheon presented by Indiana University will honor several people "who have made significant contributions to the Black community."
This year, some of those honorees include journalist Soledad O'Brien, who will receive the Excellence in Media Award.
Former Indianapolis Colts running back Edgerrin James is getting the Excellence in Sports Award.
Actor and Singer Leon Robinson will be honored with the Screen Image Award.
And retiring Indiana Pacers president Rick Fuson will be getting the Reverend Charles R. Williams Award.
“This year’s awardees are major contributors in their industry and community and have made an indelible mark on African American culture, progress and achievement,” said IBE President Alice Watson. “We look forward to honoring them and highlighting their contributions to our community during the corporate luncheon.
The awards will be given on Friday, June 28, in the Sagamore Ballroom at the Indiana Convention Center. Tables are $700 and can be purchased here.
Earlier this month, IBE announced changes coming for this year's Summer Celebration. The 11 days of events are moving from July and will now be held from June 20 to June 30.
There are changes to the Friday night concert, too. It's now a ticketed event instead of a free one. Also, it's moving from the American Legion Mall downtown to Carroll Stadium on the IU Indianapolis campus.
"We have like two or three entry points where people can come in at where we'll have like ticket takers, security and that kind of thing. So security is part of the main reason why we moved to this location," said concert promoter Amp Harris.
Johnny Gill is the headliner. Other performers include Lalah Hathway, Morris Day, Atlantic Starr and Karyn White.
Tickets start at $10.
"I want people to know that they they're going to have even a better experience than what they had before," said IBE CEO Alice Watson. "Again, beautiful venue lighting it safe. So that's what I hope that they'll they'll garner from this experience."
