LAWRENCE, Ind. — Construction on IndyGo's Purple Line is moving onto Post Road in Lawrence.
The city of Lawrence posted that milling will begin Monday, June 16 on Post Road between Otis Avenue and the CSX Railroad.
After the milling work is done, paving crews will come behind to repave the milled sections.
After this segment is done, crews will begin working their way south along Post Road. The Purple Line work there will run from near 56th Street south to 38th Street.
Work on the roads for the Purple Line started back in February 2022. The entire project is expected to wrap up this fall.
The 15-mile long Purple Line will connect Lawrence to downtown Indianapolis, using a bus rapid transit (BRT) system similar to the Red Line. The planned route would run from the Julia Carson Transit Center on Washington Street to Fort Ben in the heart of Lawrence.
This segment on Post Road is part of the final leg of construction for the Purple Line. The plan is for 30 stations, with buses departing every 10 to 15 minutes during the work week.
The Purple Line is the second of three BRT lines, with the planned Blue Line being the third. The Purple Line alone is expected to cost around $188 million, with most of that money going to infrastructure improvements.
The Purple Line project has already drawn investments along its route including several new health clinics. IndyGo estimates the investment has already totaled more than $500,000.
