INDIANAPOLIS — An IMPD patrol officer died last week following health complications, the department announced in a social media post.
Officer Keith Jennings grew up on Indy's north side and was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas School, Bishop Chatard High School. He then earned his degree in criminal justice at Indiana University.
IMPD said he was a 22-year veteran of the department, and was a recipient of the IMPD Medal of Bravery in 2010.
"As a public servant, he was dedicated to protecting and enriching our community," reads the post on IMPD's Facebook page. "He was a man of family and faith and always put the needs of others before his own. He cherished every moment of being a father, husband, son and brother to his devoted family."
Jennings was also a longtime member of St. Matthews Catholic Church and the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police #86.
"Keith loved his family above all else - helping them gave him joy and purpose," the Facebook post reads. "He enjoyed playing fantasy football, watching ND, Pacers and the RedZone. He loved hosting euchre and game nights with friends and family."
Jennings leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Amanda, and his son, Jack.
There will be a visitation held from 4-8 p.m. at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Memorial on Tuesday, Sept. 24. There will be a mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
