INDIANAPOLIS β An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police K-9 returned to the force Wednesday.
IMPD announced Oct. 25 that K-9 officer Ringo has been re-certified and is now back on duty. He was stabbed by a suspect in a September break-in that ended with an officer-involved shooting.
On Sept. 1, IMPD officers responded to an alarm from Greene's Auto & Truck Service located at 111 W. Raymond St., near South Meridian Street.
After discovering signs of forced entry to the business, K-9 officers eventually located the suspect, and IMPD officers ordered the suspect to surrender. When the suspect did not comply, Ringo was sent in and was stabbed by the suspect. An officer then fired their weapon at the suspect.
Ringo was initially released from the hospital after completing successful surgery on Sept. 5 and had spent time with IndyVet during his rehabilitation.
IMPD, along with IndyVet, posted a video on Ringo's recovery on their social media pages, while also announcing his immediate return to the force.
