IMPD: Shooting victim in critical condition after crash involving IndyGo bus on near northwest side; 3 others injured in crash

The crash was reported around 6 a.m. Friday near the intersection of West 18th Street and North Harding Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a shooting and serious crash involving an IndyGo bus on the near northwest side of Indianapolis early Friday.

The crash involving two cars and the bus was reported around 6 a.m. July 5 near the intersection of West 18th and North Harding streets.

The driver of one of the cars was listed in critical condition, and police later discovered they had also been shot, an IMPD spokesperson said. The driver later died from their injuries.

But on Aug. 1, IMPD announced that investigators determined, in consultation with the Marion County Coroner's Office, that the victim had not been shot and, in fact, had died from blunt force trauma caused by the crash.

A total of three other people were also injured in the crash.

The occupant or occupants of the other involved car fled the scene after the crash, according to police.

The driver of the bus, as well as the only passenger at the time, were OK, police said.

The area of West 18th and North Harding streets is expected to remain closed for much of the day Friday during the investigation. An IMPD spokesperson said the department does not believe there is any threat to the public in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
