Alcohol believed to be factor in deadly crash on Indy's northeast side

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday along Allisonville Road near East 64th Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — One person has died and another was injured in an early Saturday morning crash on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 24, IMPD officers responded to an area near the intersection of East 64th Street and Allisonville Road on a report of a two-car crash.

Crash investigators' preliminary findings say a silver Hyundai was traveling northbound on Allisonville Road when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Chrysler 300 head-on.

Police confirmed the driver of the Hyundai, identified Feb. 26 by the Marion County Coroner's Office as 27-year-old Breaunna Lynea Smith, died at the scene, and the driver of the Chrysler was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators preliminarily believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
