IMPD: Man found dead inside impounded car on Indy's southwest side

Police say the man's head was barely visible inside the car and was surrounded by articles of clothing when he was found.

INDIANAPOLIS — A man was found dead inside an impounded vehicle on Indy's southwest side Friday afternoon.

According to IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer, shortly before 7 p.m. on Oct. 11, officers were called to JR's Towing, located at 2334 South California Street on Indy's southwest side on a report of a person shot.

When officers arrived, they were told an employee was going through recently-towed cars when they saw what appeared to be the top of a human head surrounded by piles of clothing. IMPD says the car was towed from a McDonald's parking lot on South Madison Avenue on Thursday.

The car was reportedly towed to the yard without any keys, and police initially were unsure whether or not it was a human body inside. After finally getting the car doors open, police confirmed an adult male was deceased inside the car.

Police are calling the man's death "suspicious" and the coroner will determine the man's cause of death following their investigation.
