Driver, bus monitor hospitalized after crash involving school bus on Indy's east side

The crash happened along East 21st Street near North Bosart Avenue, west of Emerson Avenue, around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a crash involving a school bus on Indianapolis' east side Tuesday morning that seriously injured one person.

The crash between the bus and an SUV happened around 8 a.m. Feb. 20 along East 21st Street near Bosart Avenue, which is west of Emerson Avenue. The SUV reportedly caught fire following the crash.

IMPD said the driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital in "serious but stable" condition, and a bus monitor was "stable" when taken to the hospital with a complaint of pain.

There were four children on the bus at the time. One was checked out for a complaint of pain and released at the scene, police said.

"All children have been safely relocated," the department said in a statement.

IMPD accident investigators responded to the team to begin an investigation.

Both directions of East 21st Street were blocked in the area Tuesday morning.
