INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — A pit bull puppy is on the road to recovery after firefighters from the Indianapolis Fire Department rescued it from a house fire Wednesday morning.
Crews responded to a home near East Stop 11 Road just before 10 a.m. When they got there, no one was home, but there was a dog inside his cage in the kitchen.
The pit bull puppy, named Chocolate, was unconscious and barely breathing. Crews used a Project Breathe pet oxygen mask to help Chocolate breathe again. They transported him to Noah's Animal Hospital, and he's expected to make a full recovery.
The family that lives in the home plans to stay with relatives.
