INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis Fire Department firefighter is recovering while a family of four is picking up the pieces after a fire destroyed a house on Indy's south side Friday afternoon.

According to social media posts from IFD, shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in the 6200 block of S. Keystone Ave. Firefighters say the two adults and two children who lived in the home were able to escape without injury thanks to their smoke alarm activating.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 25 minutes, however, IFD says one firefighter suffered a slight injury and was transported to Methodist Hospital for treatment.

The family of four had lived in the house for the last five years, according to IFD. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
